The Governance of CWWA

First, you should not be reading this e-Bulletin. You SHOULD be on your way to the National Water & Wastewater Conference in Montreal! If you do get to our National Conference, you can also attend the Annual General Meeting of the Association, meet the Board and learn more about your association.

While my staff team and I get to lead the operations of the CWWA with a fairly free hand, I do report to you the members through a board of directors. Our board has an elected representative from each province and territory plus a representative of each of our regional partners (ACWWA, Réseau, OWWA, WEAO, WCW and BCWWA).

While I have very broad decision-making powers about the business and activities of the association, everything I do must relate back to our Association’s goals (what we call Ends).  These goals are created, reviewed and amended by your Board of Directors. We’re going to do this again in advance of the National Conference. We’ve got quite a few new directors, so following an orientation on the association’s polices and the process of policy governance, the board will review these broad Ends, set priorities for 2019 and provide direction to me and my staff. While these directors do their best to communicate with the membership and gauge their needs, we also conduct regular surveys to ensure we are on the right track as far as priorities and how we focus our resources. What are the key issues? Where is our balance between federal advocacy and member education? How well our members being served?

You can read all of our policies and our corporate by-laws on our website at http://cwwa.ca/governance_e.asp

Do you have thoughts on these priorities? You can always let me know, but you’re best to talk directly with your board director.  Here is your board for 2019:
