The 5th Wheel
CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update

Assembly Bill (AB) 5, the bill that would codify the Dynamex Decision into law, is currently in the Senate. The bill is going through the committee process where a final decision will be made before September 13th on whether the bill becomes a law.

AB 5 is the #1 Priority of the Labor Federation and if the bill passes it will put an end to the owner operator business model. It is imperative that Senators hear from you, their constituents, on AB 5, so they can know how the bill will impact the trucking industry and Owner Operators in their district.

The City of Folsom recently notified CTA that it would be reducing its Single Trip Transportation Permit Fee. This was in response to CTA sending the Mayor of Folsom a letter informing them that they are not allowed to charge more than the state mandated fee of $16.00. Over the past couple of years, CTA has been made aware of local municipalities over charging for transportation permits that carriers are required to obtain prior to transporting an extra legal load through their jurisdiction. Once CTA is made aware, we send a certified letter to the city or county to remind them of the law and ask them to lower their fee and be in accordance with California law. To view the letter from the City of Folsom click here. A special thank you goes out to CTA Member Beth Franck with Taylor Heavy Hauling for making us aware that Folsom and others cities are overcharging. We also want to thank Jerry Miranda from longtime CTA member Reeve Trucking for continuing to make CTA aware of cities over charging. Thanks Beth and Jerry!
