CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
 As we begin a new year, I would like to start by expressing thanks from CTA and our members to those in the public safety arena as citizens in our state have endured enormous tragedy and loss just weeks ago when the Camp Fire in Butte County and the Woolsey Fire in Ventura/L.A. counties brought devastation and loss of life. The firefighters, emergency medical personnel, local PDs, the California Highway Patrol and all first responders placed their lives on the line to protect and save lives...
Compliance and Regulatory News
In a case closely watched by the transportation industry, this morning the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion in New Prime, Inc. v. Oliveira. The case involved the exemption from the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA) for “contracts of employment” with “transportation workers.” Mr. Oliveira worked as an owner-operator under lease to New Prime and later sued the company, claiming he had been misclassified as an independent contractor.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff invites you to participate in a public workshop on Monday, February 11, 2019, to discuss ideas and strategies to reduce in-use emissions from heavy-duty diesel vehicles operating in the State of California. The objective of the workshop is to solicit stakeholder ideas and comments about potential strategies to ensure heavy-duty vehicles operating in California are well maintained and have properly functioning emissions control systems.

We are excited to announce the hiring of Silla Flores as the new CTA Director of Membership & Unit Engagement. She will be overseeing unit relations and membership engagement, recruitment and retention at the local level.

Silla most recently worked for CalSAE – the CA Society of Association Executives in Roseville, CA. At CalSAE, Silla served as Director of Membership & Engagement to the 1300+ members focusing on member engagement, recruitment and retention as well as staffing CalSAE’s regional councils and local events.
