As all of you know, the trucking industry has been working very hard over the past three years to resolve the issue of the patchwork of state meal & rest statutes and the impact such statutes (and most notably, California’s meal & rest statute) have had on trucking. As has been the case on several occasions over this stretch of time, the U.S. Congress has failed to rectify this situation.

Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) enforcement personnel patrolled roadways during Operation Safe Driver Week, July 15-21, 2018, to identify CMV drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaged in unsafe driving behaviors. Officers issued 57,405 citations and 87,907 warnings to drivers throughout the week. This safe driving enforcement and awareness campaign aims to call attention to driver behaviors, the main cause of crashes, and combat those behaviors through heightened traffic safety enforcement and educational outreach.

The deadline to submit nominations for the Joe Kent Allied Member of the Year award is Friday, November 9 The award celebrates Allied members in action who have given generously of themselves for the greater good of our organization over the years. This recognition will be awarded at the 2019 Annual Membership Conference held in January in San Diego.

We are excited to announce the hiring of John Antoshak as the new CTA Membership Success Manager. John graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Most recently he worked for NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association in Arlington, VA. At NTCA John served as brand ambassador to the 1200+ member companies managing member retention, crafting member onboarding plans, driving member engagement and leading on-site logistical support for the association’s many educational meetings.
