Owner Operators: ATTEND THE FINAL AB 5 HEARING

UPDATE: Because of the continuing negotiations around AB 5 the hearing time has not been solidified. The Senate Labor Committee will convene at 9:30 am to hear bills. However, there is a chance AB 5 will be heard at 12 pm in a special order of business the same day. Given these changing dynamics, it is best to arrive at 9 am before the main committee will begin.

Assembly Bill (AB) 5, the bill that would codify the Dynamex Decision into law, is expected to be heard in the Senate Labor Committee next Wednesday, July 10th. AB 5 is the #1 priority of the Labor Federation and if the bill passes as is, it will put an end to the owner operator business model. Owner Operators, July 10th will be your LAST CHANCE to provide testimony on this bill. We encourage all Owner-Operators to testify and explain why you wish to remain an Independent Owner-Operator. The bill’s author has publicly committed to working with the trucking industry. We need your voice at this hearing to help hold her to that commitment.

Please plan to provide brief testimony providing name, industry/affiliation, and position with no more than one or two additional sentences. (Example: My name is Joe Smith, owner-operator. I’m opposed unless AB 5 is amended to address owner-operators.)
