City of Redlands Revises its Extra Legal Transportation Permit Fee

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

A few weeks back a member brought to our attention that the City of Redlands was charging a higher fee to obtain an extra legal transportation permit then the state mandated fee of $16.00. Upon hearing this, CTA reviewed the City’s fee schedule and low and behold they were charging more than the law allows them to. Soon after, CTA sent a letter to the City of Redlands Mayor and informed him that by law, the City cannot charge a higher fee. As has been reported many times over the years, per California Vehicle Code Section 35795 cities and counties are prohibited from charging more than the state of California does for a transportation permit. Last week, the city responded to the letter and informed CTA that the City of Redlands "has discontinued collection of wide load/oversize permit fees and is in the process of revising the fee schedule to be consistent with the California Department of Transportation."

If you are an extra legal hauler who needs to obtain a transportation permit from the City of Redlands and are being told that the permit is more than $16.00 feel free to reference the letter CTA received. To view the letter, CLICK HERE

Be sure to let CTA know if you come across other local municipalities that are over charging you for a transportation permit. It’s against the law. Thank you to the CTA member for making us aware! For more information, please contact Eric Sauer at esauer@caltrux.org.
