Monday, the California Trucking Association (CTA), in partnership with the California Highway Patrol, the American Trucking Associations and members of the trucking industry, began a weeklong celebration honoring the millions of professional truck drivers who deliver America’s freight safely and securely each day.

This year’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week ran from September 11-17, 2022 and CTA marked the week with several events across the state, including a special presentation of an Assembly Resolution officially proclaiming Truck Driver Appreciation Week in California authored by Assemblymembers Frank Bigelow (R - O’Neals) and Carlos Villapudua (D – Stockton).

“We are honored to have the Assemblymembers join CTA in showing appreciation to the men and women drivers who ensure life’s essentials are delivered safely and securely to our homes, communities, schools, hospitals and businesses each and every day,” said Eric Sauer, CTA’s CEO.

California’s trucking industry is relied on to deliver foods and goods to nearly 80 percent of the state’s 38 million residents. Additionally, professional truck drivers contribute more than $4.6 billion annually in federal and state roadway taxes that fund critical infrastructure projects.

“Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a great opportunity to thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs,” said Assemblymember Villapudua. “Participating in these Appreciation Events is an important way to recognize the valuable service of these men and women provide to our country and our state.”

Assemblymember Villapudua presented the resolution during a visit with drivers at Antonini Freight Express, Inc in Stockton, California. CTA’s former president and board member, Joe Antonini accepted the resolution on behalf of the association and the trucking industry.
