The Annual State of Supply Chain Sustainability Report explores how supply chain sustainability (SCS) practices are being implemented globally and what that means for professionals, enterprises, industries, and the planet. The report, in its third year, is a collaboration of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL).

A special thanks to our supporting partners of this supply chain sustainability research: C.H. Robinson, Avetta News, Freight Pipes, KPMG, and Blue Yonder.

China’s online shopping event Singles Day can make or break a retailer’s year. It’s the equivalent of the United States’ Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping sales combined, but bigger—with a sales surge that is as much as 100 times greater than normal. Johnson & Johnson’s Consumer Health Supply Chain has found that a strong advanced planning foundation and digital tools and processes are essential to surviving the onslaught of sales.

"I joined CSCMP in November 2018 a few months after taking a break from my 13-year career. I wanted to keep myself connected to the Supply Chain industry by networking, enhancing knowledge and also contributing and adding value to this industry as I had ample of free time in doing so.

My advice is to network with fellow members from all over the world and also to take advantage of CSCMP’s offers and learning which is a sea of knowledge. Participate in the events provided by CSCMP to have you seen and heard."

"Originally joined CSCMP in 1988 when it was CLM and I attended the conference in Boston. Another manager in the company couldn't go, so my boss had me use his ticket. I walked out of the conference with ideas to solve problems that the company had and saw problems the company had that others did not see. From then, I continued to participate.

Early in my career, the educational sessions at the conference were the attraction. The networking was the bonus, but the real reason I attended was for the sessions. I studied the agenda and planned out my days, happy to meet like-minded people in the sessions.

As I grew in my career, the balance shifted from Education to Networking. While there were always advanced sessions, many of the sessions became less valuable (to me) as my experience and knowledge grew. Networking at the sessions became more valuable because of the conversations with peers on the topics, sharing ideas beyond what the session presented.

Over time I started to present, at CSCMP, RILA, WERC, and other events. In this late stage of my career, the value is mine to return to the community."

According to the June Logistics Manager’s Index Report®, the overall index is at 65.0 down from May, and a full 10.0 points short of this from the same time last year (although still up 3.3 points from the beginning of the initial recovery in June of 2020). This marks the first time in 22 months that the overall index score has come in below the all-time average of 65.3. The slowing rate of growth can be contributed to the 9.1-point drop in Warehousing Prices. High Inventories continue to prop up the LMI, preventing the rate of expansion from dropping even further.

CSCMP Center for Advancement of Talent & Training (CATT)
CSCMP and the CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable have established the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund in support of those pre-qualified service providers who deliver medical and food relief to the millions of people affected by the war in Ukraine. We stand with our CSCMP Roundtable community in Ukraine, our members, friends, and colleagues and support their right to live peacefully in a sovereign, free country without the threat of coercion. Please make a tax-deductible contribution to the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund enabling medical and food relief to the affected people of Ukraine. Your contribution is tax deductible and upon completion you will immediately receive a receipt right into your inbox.

Your contribution has CSCMP behind it. We will match the first $10,000 USD in donations, dollar for dollar, and will oversee the application of 100% of your contribution to the respective, pre-approved supply chain operations in Ukraine. Our efforts to support the relief effort will also be managed locally by the CSCMP Roundtable Leadership. We will keep our donors informed of progress and the difference your contributions make toward logistics operations that sustain human relief efforts.
