A Message from CSCMP President & CEO, Mark Baxa.

CSCMP launches two new educational and networking opportunities—one for executives and one for those just starting their career journey.

One of our main goals at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) is to really help supply chain professionals throughout the entire trajectory of their careers. That’s why, to kick of the new year, we are launching two exciting new initiatives that reach out to people at the opposite ends of their career journey.

The first is a new peer-to-peer member program targeting senior-level executives. The CSCMP Executive Inner Circle (EIC) is an invitation-only experience, exclusive to CSCMP practitioner (shipper) executive members. In this carefully tailored forum, EIC members will meet in exclusive live forums for discussions with other high-level supply chain executives. With this new program, we are seeking to provide executive members with exceptional learning experiences in an interactive environment with sought-after experts and resources.

This unique experience allows executives to exchange ideas with trusted supply chain colleagues as we work together to push forward our discipline, engage in leader-to-leader critical decision making, and enable strategic thought. You will want to be “in the room” as we launch this next-level senior leadership peer-to-peer program.

Senior supply chain practitioner executives—vice president and higher—are invited to reach out to CSCMP at corporate@cscmp.org to find out more about the EIC.

In addition to the EIC, CSCMP has also launched a new jobs initiative for high school students. Launched in February, this new Training-to-Jobs Initiative (T2J) was developed by the CSCMP Center for the Advancement in Talent & Training (CATT), a CSCMP Center of Excellence. CATT combines career training and pathways for all with accessible continuing education and professional development opportunities. The Center will provide thoughtfully cultivated, crafted, and supported training experiences that respect and serve both future employees and their employers.

As you can see, CSCMP is continuing to preserve and expand the reach of the learning experience it delivers, creating an environment that can be trusted to deliver exactly what you have come to expect from our association.

So cheers to a new year as we celebrate CSCMP’s 60th anniversary with steadfast commitment to expanding the reach of our vision! With these new programs, we hope to further connect supply chain professionals in order to collaborate, improve supply chain leadership skills, and support the full life cycle and development of our members’ careers. In addition to our new career development programs, we will continue to identify and conduct research that adds to the knowledge base of supply chain theory and practice and create awareness of the significance of global supply chains to business and the global economy. No other association is better positioned to serve the supply chain profession today than CSCMP.
The CSCMP EDGE Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition presents a highly rated educational program spanning the end-to-end supply chain with the latest innovations, insights, and perspectives shaping the industry. And we want to invite you to help us curate highly rated and attended sessions by submitting a session idea to the EDGE 2023 Call for Sessions. We want to hear your challenges, innovations and plans to make supply chain a competitive advantage.

Submit your session ideas today for a chance to appear in the EDGE 2023 educational program!

Facing high turnover rates and low unemployment, companies are struggling to create a stable supply chain workforce. Automation can help—not by simply replacing workers but by making their jobs safer, more productive, and less physically and mentally taxing.

Supply chain leaders are worried about the state of the workforce, as they should be. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, turnover rates in manufacturing hit close to 40% in 2021 and annual warehouse turnover rates reached 49%.1 The future does not look any brighter. The next generation of workers are not interested in working in these sectors—a 2021 survey conducted by talent development platform Tallo found that only 3.5% of Generation Z respondents expressed an interest in working in manufacturing and only 2.9% expressed an interest in transportation, distribution, and logistics.2

Have you ever wondered about salary averages in supply chain management?

That's what we aim to find out with our annual salary survey. Completing our survey should take only about 5 minutes. Your anonymous feedback will help us better understand the salary trends for supply chain professionals, such as yourself.

Results will be published in the Q2 2023 issue of CSCMP’s Supply Chain Quarterly and the May 2023 issue of DC Velocity. Results will also be published on supplychainquarterly.com and on dcvelocity.com. Take the survey today.

Note: Responses will be used only in the aggregate and will be kept strictly confidential.

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) have partnered on the 4th Annual State of Supply Chain Sustainability survey to gain a better understanding of the state of sustainable supply chains, which will be presented in the annual report exploring how supply chain sustainability is prioritized and practiced around the world.

Please take a moment to participate in this important survey and share it with any professionals you know who might also be willing to participate. This anonymous survey is available in English, Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The objective is to survey professionals globally across industries, regions, and positions to get a fuller picture of the state of modern supply chain sustainability. The survey should take 10 minutes or less to complete. Take the survey today!

"I joined CSCMP in 2020 to increase my network of supply chain professionals and expand my knowledge of SCM. My advice - Network, network, network. Go to events, online and in person, attend the annual conferences and gain from the wealth of knowledge in this group. I find the most valuable element of my membership is the news updates and local networking groups."

"My advice - Professionals in this field cannot be a subject matter expert in all aspects of supply chain management; however, a good leader will seek the information that is most relevant and impactful. Our industry is a much smaller world than most think. Our experts in this field with longevity, even fewer. Time is an important factor when networking given the need to fill the bench with the next generation of professionals. Currently, my most impactful connection at CSCMP is the members and resources supporting the university’s system with education and program support."

According to the Logistics Manager’s Index, January reads in at 57.6, up from December’s reading of 54.6. This is the second consecutive increase and marks the highest level in the overall index since September. The uptick in September was a temporary deviation from 2022’s long slide as firms shifted inventories around in anticipation of Q4. While that could be the case now, the LMI report suggests it seems less likely for two reasons: 1) There have been two increases in a row, suggesting a trend; 2) Unlike September, supply chains are not so flush with inventory that they are merely shifting goods around. Inventories are much lower now than they were in Q3 of last year, and it seems the supply chains are coming back to life with the goal of replenishment.

CSCMP Center for Advancement of Talent & Training (CATT)
In April 2022, CSCMP and the CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable established the CSCMP Talent Center (recently renamed CSCMP's Center for Advancement of Talent & Training or CATT) Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund to support the collection and distribution of medical and food relief to the millions of people affected by the war in Ukraine. The CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable is made up of supply chain professionals who invest their volunteer time in promoting and delivering educational events. With the war in Ukraine, they turned to serving the needs of people by collaborating with pre-qualified logistics service providers delivering food, clothing, and medicine.

To date, we've delivered $15,000 in donations, which has greatly helped assist with supporting logistics operations that are accountable for collecting and distributing life sustaining food, feed, supplies and medicines. Thank you to all who helped the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund and enabled the Roundtable to ensure medical and food relief reached the affected people of Ukraine.

We stand with our CSCMP Roundtable community in Ukraine, our members, friends, and colleagues and support their right to live peacefully in a sovereign, free country without the threat of coercion. The CSCMP Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund remains open for ongoing tax-deductible contributions to support the logistics relief operations in war-ravaged Ukraine. Contribute to the fund today.
