Supply Chain Student Certification with CSCMP's SCProTM

One of our new programs in the CSCMP student chapter at the University of Tennessee is coordinating weekly training sessions each semester for the SCProTM Level One certification. These  student-led sessions cover one of the 8 modules each week, using the study material provided by CSCMP.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business had 12 students take the exam in December, and CSCMP and Haslam are happy to report that 11 supply chain students now have their Level One certification as they take the first steps in their careers. Our goal is to continue to grow this program as students see the benefits their peers realize by completing the certification.

One of these key benefits is that the certification shows potential employers that the student has a baseline knowledge of the overall supply chain. It also shows that the student has the dedication and commitment to spend 1-2 hours each week studying for an exam that is not part of their formal class schedule.

We are working with our partners to educate them on the value of the SCProTM certification so that they seek out and recruit these students with the confidence that it has helped prepare them to quickly contribute as full-time employees.

We are already seeing this commitment as partner companies such as 3M have stepped up to financially support the program to defer some of the cost to the students. The university has supported the students through our VolStarter program, which is a crowdsourced site in which individuals can donate any amount to help defer some of the cost to the student.

Haslam hopes to continue the positive momentum with the SCProTM certification and help make the program one that employers seek out in potential hires.
