We did it! AB 2422 (Bloom) (aka the rodenticide bill) was killed! After a long fight, PCOC succeeded in defeating this bill. This is a great example as to what can happen when the association comes together. This year’s Legislative Day was the largest yet and the most successful. We were able to defeat an impending bill (AB 2422) and work to get our name known through the office visits and the tent. PCOC is out working hard on your behalf and on the behalf of the industry to create results like this. However, each and every member of this association is part of PCOC. This is YOUR association. Let’s continue to work together make this a great association and get results that we all benefit from. Darren Van Steenwyk, BCE Technical Director
The California Labor Commissioner recently ruled that drivers for Pacific 9 Transportation were misclassified as independent contractors and ordered the company to pay $6.9 million in back wages. Also in California, the 9th Circuit Federal Court in 2015 approved a $228 million settlement against FedEx for misclassifying more than 2,000 California FedEx Ground drivers. The state of Wisconsin just announced that it found 8,613 misclassified workers at Wisconsin companies in 2016.
In recent years, employers have increasingly contracted out or otherwise shed activities to be performed by other entities through the use of subcontractors, temporary agencies, labor brokers, franchising, licensing, and third-party management. Legitimate independent contractors play an important role in our economy — but when employers deliberately misclassify employees in an attempt to cut costs, everyone loses.

Please click here to see the full notice and the form needed. PLEASE NOTE: LICENSING WILL BE CONSIDERED EXPIRED IF THE PROCESS IS NOT COMPLETED.
AB 2422, a bill that would ban all anticoagulant rodenticides in California was withdrawn by the author moments before the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee was set to consider the legislation! Hundreds of meetings, grassroots pressure, and a steadfast determination to protect public health engendered this outcome. A special thanks to the Pest Control Operators of California (PCOC) and their 150+ Legislative Day attendees who stormed the Capitol in Sacramento and communicated the special need for federally and state approved rodenticides and their vital role in protecting public health. Additionally, the PCOC membership and allies sent over 450 grassroots messages to their CA Assemblymembers and hundreds of additional letters to members of the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee. Lastly, we want to also thank the countless member companies, strategic partners, registrants, and allied organizations who banded together and worked tirelessly to defeat this bill.
