At this year’s Legislative Days, CAPMA members met with legislators to share industry perspectives on key bills impacting pest management businesses. Our united voice focused on three important pieces of legislation:
AB 599 (Connolly) – SUPPORT
This bill increases community involvement when changes are proposed to hazardous waste classifications. CAPMA supports AB 599 for ensuring that pest management professionals receive clear, timely communication about regulatory changes that affect compliance and environmental stewardship.
SB 310 (Wiener) – OPPOSE
SB 310 threatens to undo recent reforms to the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), opening the door for trial attorneys to file meritless wage-and-hour lawsuits. CAPMA opposed this bill to protect small and mid-sized pest control companies from unfair legal burdens that can lead to costly settlements or even closures.
AB 1331 (Elhawary) – OPPOSE
This bill aims to restrict workplace surveillance but poses real risks to employee safety in the field. CAPMA voiced concerns that AB 1331 could limit our ability to monitor employees in remote or high-risk environments, increase compliance costs, and open the door to frivolous lawsuits.
These talking points helped legislators better understand how proposed policies affect our ability to operate safely, sustainably, and successfully. Thank you to all who advocated on behalf of the industry!
