Integrated Case Management (ICM) training is an advanced educational program designed to provide case managers with the skills needed to develop an alliance with the patient/client using motivational interviewing skills while disentangling physical, psychological, social, and health system barriers to improvement.

The 2014 ICM Program is now open for registration. Each trainee completes a self-study portion with the ICM Manual as well as online sessions. A choice of three face-to-face training sites and dates will be available to choose from for 2014 trainees.

For more information on the ICM program, visit www.cmsa.org/ICM.

Deadline: March 31

CMSA is now accepting applications for the Case Management Practice Improvement Award and Case Management Research Award, which pay tribute to the case management individual, group, or organization offering the most outstanding research or evidence-based practice program.

Each award recognizes programs that use findings from a research or quality/performance improvement (QI/PI) project for innovation in the advancement of case management practice and/or improved client outcomes.

If selected, you will be eligible for honors including:

· Award Presentation: These two awards will be presented at CMSA Annual Conference & Expo in June.
· DVD: A copy of the awards presentation will be provided to each recipient post-conference.
· Honorarium: Each recipient will be awarded a $2,500 honorarium.
· Webinar Presentation: Recipients will be able to present their findings to CMSA members during a webinar. Date/Time TBD.
· Article: Each recipient may present an article on their findings in an issue of CMSA Today.

How many times have we all heard (or asked): "What is the ‘average’ caseload?" Sounds like a simple question, doesn't it?  However, case management programs have struggled for years trying to determine realistic, standard caseloads. People are looking for "a number" that defines the average caseload, but in reality, there is no "magic" number.

Determining standard case loads is a challenge due to a complexity of factors across diverse CM settings. In addition, rapid changes in the medical management field have added to those complexities, e.g. the integration of utilization management (UM) and disease management (DM) into case management (CM) functions, and the increase in complex, condition management strategies. Some care management applications promote standardized workflows and acuity levels that can help determine caseloads and acuity levels for a given population. However these applications usually lack evidence-based algorithms to determine distinct, accurate and realistic caseloads.

Beneficiaries can get greater protections, value, and care in the Medicare services they receive through the proposed policies released today by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The 2015 Advance Notice and draft Call Letter takes important steps to improve payment accuracy for Medicare Advantage (Part C) for 2015. The proposed changes for 2015 are smaller than those implemented in 2014 — a year in which CMS expects to exceed its 5 percent enrollment growth projection in Medicare Advantage for 2014.

27 percent of February Federal Marketplace enrollees are young adults

Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace continued to rise in February to a five-month total of 4.2 million.

As in January, the percent of young adults who selected a Marketplace plan was 3 percentage points higher than it was from October through December (27 percent versus 24 percent). Based on enrollment patterns in other health care programs, it is expected that more people will sign up as we get closer to the March 31st deadline.

"Over 4.2 million Americans have signed up for affordable plans through the Marketplace," said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. "Now, during this final month of open enrollment our message to the American people is this: you still have time to get covered, but you’ll want to sign up today — the deadline is March 31st."
