Be sure to join us early this morning at 8:00 am for the Breakfast Symposia (breakfast will be served at 7:30 am), which is followed by Concurrent Sessions from 9:45 am – 10:45 am. The Expo Hall will be in full swing again from 11 am – 2:45 pm with lunch being served. Captain Jerry Linenger Keynote: An Astronaut's Moving Story
Retired U.S. Navy flight surgeon and NASA astronaut Captain Jerry Linenger took the stage as a moving storyteller of his missions in space. He spoke of both the awe and peril of space travel.

After spending five months aboard the Russian Space station Mir, Capt. Linenger endured brushes with death, and shared a moving account of his experiences above Earth with attendees.

Attendees laughed, cried, and followed along to his amazing and moving story of his time in space and what it was like to return back to Earth. At the end of his presentation, Capt. Linenger encouraged attendees to wake up every morning, take a big deep breath (of "Earth oxygen" as he put it), and be grateful for another day that you were given on this great, beautiful Earth.

CMSA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
The CMSA Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual whose professional accomplishments have made a significant and lasting impact on the field of case management, and whose life and character have earned the respect and admiration of their professional colleagues.

This is a prestigious award, and our recipient joins the ranks of only five others who have ben acknowledged with this award. On Wednesday morning, CMSA was proud to acknowledge Margaret (Peggy) Leonard, MS, RN-BC, FNP, as a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Director of Transitional and Ambulatory Care Management, Northeast Physician Hospital Organization, Chair, CMSA Public Policy Committee, Beverly, MA

I’ve attended CMSA conferences for a number of years, and what I love about attending is that it’s such a wonderful opportunity to learn about what’s happening in health care today, and the trends and changes in the models of care. I am so energized every single time, and I never leave disappointed.

Continuous Learning
When I leave to go back to my home state of Massachusetts, I feel energized to be able to bring back so much information; we’re always learning – as nurses, case managers, social workers, and allied health professionals. Health care is changing rapidly, and we need to be a part of that change. We need to be continuously challenged to learn.

When I attend the CMSA conference, to meet so many wonderful colleagues and individuals from across the country who are all out there doing the same thing, which is improving the quality of care for our clients, patients, and health care consumers every day and in the variety of roles we play in health care.

Deep Involvement
I’m deeply interested and passionate about public policy; it’s an opportunity to educate our legislators and policy makers about what case management is, what our roles are, and the critical value that we add to the health care system. We need to be sure they understand the importance of our role in the future of health care.

Public policy touches all of our lives; it’s important to know who your legislators are and to reach out to them as a constituent. It’s a powerful and wonderful opportunity to get involved in sharing more about case management.

We know so many things in the Affordable Care Act have propelled us forward, and it’s case management’s time to shine – more than ever before.
