Even under ideal conditions, construction sites present a clear risk to health and safety. While job-related injuries receive the most attention, environmental conditions also present a significant risk to the safety and success of projects everywhere.
 
Construction employment declined in 91 metro areas and was stagnant in another 24 between February 2020, the last month before the pandemic, and May 2021, according to an analysis by AGC of America of government employment data released recently.
 
The elevated price of softwood lumber, a major talking point during much of the pandemic, appears to have peaked in early May at more than $1,700 per thousand board feet. As of June 23, the price has fallen below $900 per board feet, down about 49% in less than two months.
 
NIOSH is seeking input on personal protective equipment use, availability, accessibility, acceptability and knowledge for “underserved” workers, according to a notice published in the June 24 Federal Register.
