CISCA is offering a new way for you to get in front of your customers with our virtual Contractor Lunch & Learn series!

This new series will begin in January and is designed to replace the in-person presentations that are not possible during the pandemic. CISCA will promote your presentation exclusively to CISCA Contractor members so you will have the target audience you want.

By participating, CISCA staff will host a one-hour Zoom session where you will present your products/services and take questions in an open forum. CISCA will invite our contractor members to the event but you can also invite products reps, independent reps and your non-CISCA member contractor customers to join. Best of all, this opportunity is FREE to you as a CISCA member! Your only cost is to provide a lunch voucher from a food delivery service (UberEats, GrubHub, DoorDash) for each contractor registered for your presentation.

Contractors will enjoy lunch at their desk while engaging with you during a virtual presentation… just like they would have done at your in-person presentation!

Register now for this exclusive opportunity by emailing us at cisca@cisca.org.

Construction employment increased by 84,000 jobs in October, with jobs added in both nonresidential and residential categories, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of government data released recently. Association officials cautioned, however, that the pandemic is causing a growing number of construction projects to be canceled or delayed, according to a survey the association released in late October.

Too often, contractors invest in expensive technology only to still lose money and time on projects. Too many leaders and their teams spend valuable work hours hunting and gathering for information and by the time they’re able to actually collate everything together, the information is either outdated or heavily error-prone.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) highlights a looming issue facing owners, landlords, operators and designers of a whole host of commercial and institutional real estate: How does a building owner prevent the spread of COVID-19 or other airborne pollutants, particulates and viruses, and does it require a totally new way of looking at ventilation and HVAC operation and design?

The construction industry added 84,000 net new jobs in October, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data released recently by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. During the last six months, the industry added 789,000 jobs, recovering 73% of the jobs lost during earlier stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

Released recently, the Dodge Data & Analytics 2021 Construction Outlook predicts that total U.S. construction starts will increase by 4% next year, to $771 billion.

During a recent construction project, workers wore armbands connected to an electronic node network situated across the jobsite. Project supervisors from the engineering and construction firm Jacobs implemented the technology as a form of contact tracing – a disease control measure with long-standing roots in public health practice that has emerged as a new concept for many employers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a recent investor and analyst conference call, George Oliver, chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls, revealed that his company is looking at potential building air-system upgrade projects valued at “a couple of hundred million” dollars in just the next year. Bloomberg reported that Honeywell International has more than $600 million worth of projects in its pipelines. Carrier Global Corp. estimates that the market for indoor-air quality improvements in buildings could eventually reach $10 billion.

As AEC firm leaders consider worst-case scenarios and explore possible solutions to surmount them, they learn to become nimble, quick, and ready to pivot as circumstances demand.

Insulation for Offices – A Dual Purpose
Johns Manville
Effectively placed insulation can support its dual purpose as both acoustical control and aesthetic appeal. However, in some applications, an uneven or rough surface will hinder its secondary purposes, either detracting from the aesthetics of the material or working against its functionality. Ensuring that you have the right product for the application is key and there are four things to consider in your design process.
