Data from the BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) indicate that construction job openings increased in March, consistent with the ongoing challenge of the availability of labor for builders. The estimated number of job openings in the construction sector increased to 360,000, a post-Great Recession high. It's 54% greater than openings estimated in March 2018.
 
Companies that take proactive measures to prevent jobsite safety breaches can their number of incidents by 85%, according to a new Associated Builders and Contractors study. The ABC 2019 Safety Performance Report is based on data from member contractors that have deployed the association’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP).

According to the Construction Marketing Association, 97% of construction industry professionals use social media. So the reality of today is, just like with any other business sector, folks do their networking on social media.

Construction costs in the U.S. rose 5.7% in 2018, according to Rider Levett Bucknall’s First Quarter 2019 North American Quarterly Construction Cost Report. Of the 12 U.S. metros in RLB’s report, those experiencing the biggest cost increases were Chicago (7.6%); Portland, Oregon (7.1%); San Francisco (6.7%); Phoenix (6.7%); Washington, D.C. (6.5%); and Seattle (6.4%).
 
Executing a commitment to world-class safety takes fortitude and effort, as it is fraught with leadership challenges. During this journey, construction leaders eventually ask themselves and their employees: "Do we truly believe that all incidents are preventable?" and "Are we unwilling to compromise someone’s safety for profit, productivity and schedule?"

Due to a number of factors, including tariffs and cost of transportation, the cost of construction materials rose 7.8% in 2018. The labor shortage in construction and the skilled trades has pushed worker costs up as well, so contractors and project managers are struggling to make projects profitable.
 
With 33,000 net new jobs added to the industry in April, construction unemployment at a record low and other positive signs across the broader economy, a downturn is at bay for at least another year, according to Associated Builders and Contractors’ analyses of Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The construction industry had 256,000 more jobs last month than March 2018, which represents a 3.5% increase.
