Associated Builders and Contractors' findings indicate that the construction industry should continue to see healthy growth in the coming year. Key figures like the Conference Board's Leading Econommic Index (up to 111.8 as of August, as opposed to 100 in 2016) and the Architecture Billings Index (above 50 over the last several readings, meaning architects have been busier each month for some time) all show a positive direction.
 
Out of 358 metropolitan areas examined in an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America, Houston ranked at the top for construction job growth for the period October 2017 to October 2018, with 25,600 new positions being created. The vast majority of metros surveyed - 78 percent - saw some level of growth.
 
Finding new ways to employ technology in the construction industry can take a company from run-of-the-mill to front-of-the-pack. Sometimes it takes a "mad scientist" approach, and it pays to have individuals with that type of creativity and innovativeness in your firm.

The Merit Shop Scorecard - a report issued by the Associated Builders and Contractors that ranks the states based on their policies that foster growth in the construction industry - placed Florida at the No. 1 spot this year. Michigan saw the most upward movement, going from 24th last year to 7th this year, and Illinois ranked at the bottom.

For the second conseutive year, Allen County in Indiana has exceeded $1 billion in new construction permits. The total number of permits in the county - which is part of the Fort Wayne MSA - is down slightly, but the $1 billion figure for total value was reached several days sooner than last year.
