The number of nonfatal worker injuries and illnesses for California in 2017 was comparable to the same figure in 2016, according to a Department of Industrial Relations report that cited the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses. The construction industry ranked second-highest in frequency of such occurrences.
