AECOM is among the biggest players in the AEC space. In the past year it has made a strategic acquisition with Shimmick Construction, has launched a federal contracting division and is preparing itself to be a leader in infrastructure, in part by announcing an initiative to hire 3,000 workers throughout a six-month timeframe.
 
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit Court upheld OSHA's decision to issue a willful citation in the case of a worker's deadly fall, even though the employer claims the foreman in charge was ignorant of safety requirements that could have prevented the incident.
 
According to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of information provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), March construction material prices increased month over month by 0.8%. On a year-over-year basis, the price of construction materials increased 5.8%.
 
A Wisconsin grand jury has indicted a Milwaukee construction company and its owner with a total of 22 counts of fraud for reportedly creating what were purported to be minority and veteran-owned businesses in order to win more than $200 million in federal construction contracts set aside for those groups.
 
The Trump administration is expected to announce that it will roll back automobile gas mileage and pollution standards that were a pillar in the Obama administration’s plans to combat climate change.
It’s not clear whether the announcement will include a specific number, but current regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency require the fleet of new vehicles to get 36 miles per gallon in real-world driving by 2025. That’s about 10 mpg over the existing standard.
