The home of Disney and the Magic Kingdom was the backdrop for this year’s convention ensuring a magical experience for all in attendance. From excellent networking opportunities to engaging education sessions to the awards ceremony that recognized some of the top people and projects in the industry, the convention highlights are many.

A recent customer survey revealed that fewer than 35% of small construction companies planned to make investments at some level this year in technologies that could help their businesses and further bring them into the digital age. More than 65% of contractors who responded to the study did not have a plan to invest in tools like big data solutions or mobile technologies. The survey also found that even with well-publicized cyber attacks and other computer-related crimes, not even 40% of small construction firms planned to invest in cybersecurity.

It takes a wide variety of expertise and skills for major projects to be completed successfully, which typically means on budget and on schedule.

While no level of preparedness can fully eliminate workplace accidents, employers can greatly reduce the risk by creating a thorough accident response plan, supplemented with frequent employee safety trainings to ensure everyone is prepared to act when an incident occurs.

With a strong economy comes more opportunities to bid work and increased pressure on estimators to win more work. No doubt, this is great news for contractors and the construction industry. But does volume bidding always increase your win rate and improve your bottom line? Not necessarily. Especially if those estimates leave your business exposed to risk when it comes to quality of work and accuracy.
