Convenience store retailers cited positive revenue growth over the first six months of 2018, with expanded healthy snack and drink options expected to fuel strong summer sales growth, according to a survey of U.S. convenience store owners by NACS.

Convenience stores sell nearly 80% of the fuel purchased in the United States and conduct an estimated 165 million transaction a day, making the industry a good indicator for trends related to travel and consumer spending.

California greenhouse gas emissions fell below 1990 levels, meeting an early target years ahead of schedule and putting the state well on its way toward reaching long-term goals to fight climate change, officials said Wednesday.

The California Air Resources Board announced pollution levels were down 13 percent since their 2004 peak — as the economy grew 26 percent since that year. The achievement was roughly equal to taking 12 million cars off the road or saving 6 billion gallons (22.7 billion liters) of gasoline a year, the board said.

California is ready to work with major automakers on revisions to greenhouse gas emission vehicle rules through 2025 and sees a "window" for a deal in the coming months, the state’s top clean air regulator told Reuters on Monday.

Air Resources Board chair Mary Nichols said in an interview on Monday that agreements with the federal government or automakers could be struck in the coming months as the state pursues its own changes to fuel economy standards through 2025. "If the car companies want to come and talk to us, they will," Nichols said.

It’s a long way from California to Washington, D.C., but that doesn’t mean Democrats inside the beltway shouldn’t pay attention to what’s happening on the other coast.

On Friday, for example, Tom Perez, chair of the Democratic National Committee, released his statement on the June jobs report. Since the report was pretty good, showing a better-than-expected 213,000 jobs created, Perez decided to ignore the numbers and just slam President Trump.

From fossils to fill 'er up, the California Oil Museum tells the story of the black bonanza that created wealth, work, and prosperity for generations of Californians. The Museum highlights the inner workings of the state's black gold industry through interactive displays, videos, working models, games, photographs, restored gas station memorabilia, and an authentic turn-of-the-century cable-tool drilling rig. Visitors can exercise their wits and luck as California wildcatters, see how the Native Americans used natural oil seeps, watch a miniature drilling rig bore into the earth, and explore the memorable brands of gas bought by early California car drivers. Housed in the original Union Oil Company building the museum offers docent-led tours of the upstairs where restored offices from the 1890’s provide visitors with a personal, hands-on experience of the early California oil business. Visitors can enjoy one of the largest displays of vintage gas pumps in California. In addition to the permanent petroleum exhibits, the Museum presents new exhibits of science, transportation and history throughout the year. Lundgren Park and Courtyard is located on the Museum grounds and is available for picnics.

The California Oil Museum annually hosts 10,000 visitors, including over 4,000 students taking tours and participating in our hands-on Earth Science workshops through our established Education Programs. For more information on our very popular Education Program see the Education Program page.
