California political campaigns are preparing for the increase of the gas tax to be this fall's pre-eminent campaign issue, after Republicans focused on the issue during the successful recall of a state Senator.

Republican gubernatorial candidate John Cox jumped on the gas tax issue immediately after his primary win last week.

Stricter regulations on oil and gas operations in Arvin got a little closer to becoming a reality on Tuesday.

The Arvin Planning Commission approved an ordinance that makes amendments to the city's oil and gas codes that would prevent new operations near residential areas and sensitive areas including schools and hospitals. It also implements more stringent requirements when it comes to mitigating environmental impacts.

Tesla is currently fighting a new regulation in California that could deny Tesla buyers access to the state's Clean Vehicle Rebate, which offers $2,500 rebates at the purchase of electric vehicles, by tying the rules to new labor regulations for automakers producing cars in California.

The new rule is backed by the Union of Auto Workers (UAW), which is currently trying to unionize Tesla's Fremont factory, and it would specifically target Tesla since it is the only large-scale automaker in the state.

The only large-scale car manufacturer in California argues that doing business in the state is hard enough without a fast-developing labor regulation backed by organizations that want to unionize its Fremont plant.

Elon Musk's Tesla is fighting a rule under development by two state agencies that would require it to be certified as a "fair and responsible workplace" for its customers to be eligible for taxpayer-backed state electric vehicle rebates.

It is with a heavy heart to announce the recent passing of Richard "Dick" Dyke, Founder of WSCO Petroleum.

Dick served on many of the regional and national boards within the petroleum industry, including the POC Board, and was the chairman in 1982.

Richard "Dick" Dyke is survived by Zeruiah Aloysia "Honey/Arlene" Dyke, his wife of 71 years, as well as their four children plus a quiver full of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
