It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you of our father Terry Andrews’ death.

Dad passed away after a thirteen week struggle with lung cancer. Each of us not only grieves at the passing of such a tremendous individual to so many great friends but also for the loss our entire family suffers. Mom has expressed her desire to have contributions made to American Cancer Society (donate3.cancer.org) or Sutter Medical Foundation Cancer Support (sutterhealth.org) in lieu of flowers.

We will be holding a private family burial this Friday 1/18/19 at 9am followed by a tribute to dad with a lap of InterState trucks from the local three branches around 11:30am.

The trucks will go down Power Inn Road and down Howe Avenue and make a right at fair oaks blvd, then right lane down to watt Ave, right then there then right turn onto US Hwy 50 tomorrow (Friday) at 11:30am. The Andrews family will be out on the sidewalk at Zinfandel Grille waving at the trucks while they sound their horns from the shell station past Zinfandel Grille. People from Piatti and Ruth Chris over by Pavilions are going to go out and wave at the convoy I am hearing. Please spread the word if anyone would like to join this tribute to Terry Andrews.

The Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held on 2/1/19 at Del Paso Country Club at 3333 Marconi Ave, Sacramento from 2:00-4:30pm. It is recommended to consider using Uber or Lyft as parking will be limited.

On behalf of Mom, Greg, Todd and Ashley, Melanie and myself, we would like to say Thank You for all of your tremendous support during this difficult loss. We are continually overwhelmed for all of the kind messages and love from all of you towards our family since last Wednesday morning.

Dad had an infectious smile that affected so many.

-Brent Andrews

NACS has announced a new member benefit that helps the employees of its retailer and supplier member companies pay down student loan debt and save for their future.

Today, seven in 10 people graduating from college have student loan debt, and total student loan debt has climbed to more than $1.5 trillion.1 With Gradifi, NACS members have access to a powerful tool that can help them gain a competitive advantage in the hiring marketplace by helping their employees reduce student loan debt, as well as bolster efforts to recruit and retain top talent. NACS has been offering student loan contributions to its own employees through the Gradifi SLP Plan since May 2018.

“Attracting and retaining high-caliber college graduates is a key part of our strategic growth plan at NACS, as well as for many retailer and suppler member companies,” said Brian Kimmel, senior vice president and chief financial officer at NACS. “A student loan repayment benefit will help our industry become more widely recognized an employer of choice.”

David Chang, CEO of Gradifi added: “Employee benefits that make student loan debt more manageable translate into real advantage in a highly competitive labor market. Gradifi’s solution will help NACS members attract and retain talent by helping their employees reduce the financial burden and emotional stress of student loan debt.”

We all know that California's government has spent millions developing charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. They are becoming seemingly ubiquitous around the state and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Yet, one thing stands out... there's hardly ever an EV parked at one. CFCA wants your pictures of this excessive taxpayer waste. We want your pictures of EV charging stations throughout the state that sit empty and unkempt, or better yet, used by non-electric vehicles.

Send them directly to CFCA via email, or you can share them to CFCA's social media channels yourself with the hashtags #EVacuated and #dEVoid.

Let's see who can capture the best image of this taxpayer waste!

Free CARB Regulatory Training in Your Area!

Do you own, operate, or dispatch heavy-duty diesel trucks in or to California? Then you need to know that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) enforces a set of air pollution regulations affecting all types of heavy-duty diesel vehicles operating in the State. If your vehicles are NOT already compliant, you need to know what to do to be compliant for 2019. And if your vehicles ARE compliant, you still may need to report to remain compliant. This course gives you the information you need about how to comply with CARB diesel regulations and how to report to continue operating legally in 2019 and beyond.

OPIS is updating the West Coast Spot Market Report methodology for San Francisco minimum volume to align with the 5,000 bbl requirement for Kinder Morgan’s North Line pipeline system. In addition, California spot market trading activity on a North-South basis will require a volume match between origins to be included in the assessment process. This methodology update will take effect Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

As with last year, efforts to reduce Washington’s greenhouse gas emissions is prompting several bills as part of Governor Jay Inslee’s “green energy” proposal – and the topic took up much of his State of the State speech. One of those proposals seeks to reduce carbon intensity in transportation fuels through a low carbon fuel standard (LCFS), though trucking industry and business group leaders say the standard would increase gas prices significantly in a state that already has the second-highest gas tax.

Sponsored by Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon (D-36), House Bill 1110 (HB1110) seeks to reduce fuel carbon intensity by 10 percent below 2017 levels by 2028 and 20 percent below 2017 levels by 2035. The bill is a modified version of a similar proposal made last year, but failed to clear the House floor.

State agencies are reminding food stamp recipients that their early February benefits payment will need to last a lot longer, Politico reports. With the partial government shutdown stretching on, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) had to release the Februarybenefits for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients this week. This means, there will be no benefit payment loaded on SNAP cards in February. USDA is asking that retailers help spread the word with SNAP customers who may not receive notification of the early issuance or know that the February benefits have been uploaded early.

Pacific Gas and Electric said on Monday that it would seek bankruptcy protection as “the only viable option” as the giant California utility faces billions of dollars in liability claims from two years of deadly wildfires.

The company’s troubles pose a challenge to the state’s elected officials and regulators, who will ultimately decide whether part of the solution will be raising already high electricity rates. The problems could also make it harder to achieve California’s ambitious goals for renewable energy.

The partial government shutdown, heading into its third week, has shuttered the federal E-Verify website, Nation’s Restaurant News reports. As of press time, there had been no movement on the funding impasse between President Donald Trump and Congress.

The federal E-Verify electronic verification employment system website had been shut down. The system, which verifies the info on a worker’s Form I-9 with Social Security Administration records, is run by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which had been partially hobbled by the lack of a funding bill.

If retailers were “using E-Verify before the shutdown, they can go back to the existing rules for hiring documents that the majority of employers in the U.S. still use,” said David T. Denney of the Dallas-based Denney Law Group.

No California governor in modern times has entered office with more wind at his back and fewer obstacles lying ahead.

"These are good times," newly inaugurated Gov. Gavin Newsom said in rolling out his $209-billion budget proposal last week. "You pinch yourself at times like this."

Newsom has loads of money to spend and no effective political opposition. His Democratic Party wields unprecedented power in Sacramento.
