CFCA is sad to announce the passing of Nevada gas station giant, Jerry Herbst.

Herbst helped his family grow the Terrible Herbst company into 160-plus convenience stores, car washes and lube locations throughout Southern Nevada.

The company opened the world’s largest Chevron this summer in Jean. But Herbst the man was more than a gas station magnate, with businesses in gaming and as the patriarch of the so-called “first family of desert racing.”

CFCA woudl like to congratulate CadMart on the opening of their newest location!

A huge congratulations to Nishant Chudasama for this achievement, and an even bigger thanks for all you do for CFCA! We are very proud to have you!

Earlier this month, and after years of CFCA efforts, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) preempted California's meal and rest break rules for hazmat drivers, allowing fuel companies and others to safely deliver fuel to consumers. For months, CFCA has sent letters to federal officials urging them to address this issue and last month, The American Trucking Association filed a petition with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, asking the agency to take similar action for all drivers in California.

The State of California has formally appealed PHMSA's preemption, yet we do not expect it to have any effect.

If you would like to submit comments and explain how California's meal and rest break rules have affected your business, please submit them with FMCSA in the link below.

Please be sure to include the docket number in your comments: FMCSA-2018-0304

We all know that California's government has spent millions developing charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. They are becoming seemingly ubiquitous around the state and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Yet, one thing stands out... there's hardly ever an EV parked at one. CFCA wants your pictures of this excessive taxpayer waste. We want your pictures of EV charging stations throughout the state that sit empty, or better yet, used by non-electric vehicles.

Send them directly to CFCA via email, or you can share them to CFCA's social media channels yourself with the hashtags #EVacuated and #dEVoid.

Let's see who can capture the best image of this taxpayer waste!

On December 11, the Senate voted unanimously to pass the sweeping measure by a vote of 87-13. The House is scheduled to vote on the measure this week.

The U.S. convenience and fuel retailing industry contributes more than $1 billion annually to charities.

With the spirit of giving upon us during the holiday shopping season, the convenience retailing industry has a great story to tell: Convenience stores collect or contribute more than $1 billion a year to charitable groups.

Overall, the median charitable contribution per store is $3,925 in direct contributions and $3,054 in donations collected. Cumulatively, the nearly 155,000 convenience stores in the United States contribute or collect $1.03 billion a year to benefit charitable groups.

California is regarded as a global leader on climate-change policy, having put in place some of the world’s most ambitious carbon-reduction targets. Most recently, it extended its landmark climate law from 2020 out through 2030, drawing international praise and signaling that the state would stay on the path of decarbonization.

But now comes the hard part: implementation. California must design and implement a system of emission reductions that can meet its aggressive 2030 target. If it doesn’t, all the hype will have been for nothing. If it designs a system that fails, California will go from an inspiration to a cautionary tale.
