California's Upcoming Tobacco Bans

There are upcoming bans on tobacco products in California. If you live, work, operate, or are located within any of the areas listed below, CIOMA needs your immediate help in stopping these ordinances from advancing any further. Make your presence and voice heard! 
 
This is an all-hands-on-deck effort. Your help was critical last year in defeating SB 1400, which would have prohibited C-Stores from selling tobacco products. Now, they are taking even worse tobacco bans and attacks on your business from city to city to ultimately stop your customers from purchasing legal products. We urge you to attend and OPPOSE these extreme tobacco bans. Hearing dates and additional information is provided below.

Please note: We will continue to keep you posted on updates for the San Francisco and San Leandro meeting schedule as they become available.
 
Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will be discussing: 
  • Ban on menthol cigarettes;
  • Ban on flavored tobacco products;
  • Establish minimum pack size of 10 cigars and little cigars, exempting cigars of $5.00 or more;
  • Cap the number of tobacco licenses to 90 (the current number of tobacco retailers, not including the existing pharmacies);
  • Ban new tobacco retailers within 1,000 feet of schools and 500 feet of other tobacco retailers;
  • Pharmacy ban;
  • 30-day license suspension for first violation.
County Supervisors for San Francisco will be discussing:
  • Prohibit tobacco retailers from selling flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes.
City of San Leandro City Council will be discussing:
  • Ban "juices" used in conjunction with vaping pens, whether they contain nicotine or not;
  • Strict penalties on retailers for non-compliance, including a 90-day suspension of tobacco license and up to a five-year ban;
  • Minimum number of small cigars to be limited at 15 per pack.
