Spotlight Award Winner – Christie Springer, Sodexo at Museum of Science and Industry (Annual Awards Recognition Celebration Committee)

How did you become involved in MPI?

I attended my first MPI event, the Holiday Party, as a guest back in 2011, and I’ve been engaged ever since! I worked for a DMC at the time, and I immediately realized how important it was to connect with planners and suppliers alike. MPI’s educational and networking events impressed and inspired me. I began serving on the Holiday Party Committee and then graduated to co-chairing for a few years. I also helped support Membership and Golf committees. For the last five years I’ve been a member of the Awards Celebration Committee, then co-chaired that, too. I’ve had the pleasure of supporting the Board Nominations Committee for the last two years. Now I’ve come full circle and am serving on Holiday again as well. I love my MPI peeps!

What has been the most exciting moment or memorable thing that has happened since joining MPI?

I was honored and truly surprised to receive the Tomorrow’s Leader Award in 2014. MPI boasts a huge pool of very talented event professionals, so it was especially meaningful to be recognized among my peers.

Tell us something unique about you.

In my travels I’ve had amazing up-close and personal encounters with animals in their natural habitats. My favorites were in Australia, Komodo Island, Thailand, Cambodia and the Galapagos Islands.

Volunteer/Join a Committee

The best way to get the most out of your MPI-CAC membership is by joining a committee. It’s a great way to network, utilize your skills or challenge yourself to try something new! We know everyone has busy schedules, but many of our committees have a variety of tasks that can be done in just one hour a month!

What is your committee responsible for?

We are responsible for making sure all our members are getting the most out of their memberships! We are the first ones to welcome them once they join our community, and we keep them up-to-date with upcoming events, promotions and all things MPI! We partner up our new members with buddies and stick with them throughout the first year of their membership to help them get acquainted and make connections throughout MPI.

How often does your committee meet?

We meet once a month for about an hour to an hour and a half. We currently are meeting on Zoom, but once people are feeling comfortable again, we host our get-together at Summit Chicago!

What are some tasks people do for your committee?

Our tasks include introducing yourself to your new member buddies and making a connection with them. From there we update, call, email them when an event is happening, let them know about engagement/committee opportunities and make sure they do not miss any updates. We are also responsible for notifying those whose memberships are needing to be renewed and ensuring they do not miss that.

What makes your committee fun or stand out?

As I mentioned before, we are the first people to welcome these members to our chapter! We get to make the first impression on what their experience is going to be. It may seem like a lot of pressure, but it is so fun to share our personal experiences and get others excited for what is to come for them. We also get to participate in a lot of networking events like our Membership Days, Coffee Talks and New Member Mixers! There are so many opportunities for making connections!
