Volunteer Spotlight

Member Spotlight

Spotlight Award Winner – Christine Morettini, Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile (Trivia Night Committee)

“I have known quite a few other people that have been involved, both in Chicago and elsewhere, who have raved about the connections you make. When I got my job at the Sofitel downtown, I met Heather Brown at a social event between PRA and our events department, and she encouraged me to join MPI (and the Trivia Committee), and
[I] have been a member ever since. Most memorable part was getting to see my questions being asked during last year’s Trivia Night event. Not only was it a great event to connect with everyone that is part of the Chicago Area Chapter, but I got to be a huge part of why we had all gathered. Can’t wait for this year’s event and new questions to be asked."

Editor’s Note: Formerly known as Engaged Member of the Month, the Spotlight Award honors committee members who have really been an all-star on their committee.

Volunteer/Join a Committee

The best way to get the most out of your MPI-CAC membership is by joining a committee. It’s a great way to network, utilize your skills or challenge yourself to try something new! We know everyone has busy schedules, but many of our committees have a variety of tasks that can be done in just one hour a month!

Committees are always looking for members with leadership skills, creative mindsets and the drive to collaborate with fellow industry professionals. Click here to see the full list of committees and to fill out the committee interest form.

Committee Spotlight – Membership Recruitment

Vice President, Membership - Sara Broderick (Wynn Las Vegas)

Director of Member Recruitment - Micayla Diener (CSI DMC)

Co-Chair - Katrina Whaley (Reel Impact)

What is your committee responsible for?
We’re responsible for prospecting and recruiting new members by watching for new hires in the Chicago area meeting industry and meeting nonmembers at MPI-CAC events. We reach out by phone, email and sometimes in-person to personally invite prospects to join our chapter.

How often does your committee meet?
We meet once a month, on the first Tuesday, at 2 p.m. via Zoom.

What are some tasks people do for your committee?
In our committee, we have people who pay attention to hiring in the meeting industry, people who write social media posts, people who man our table at events and people who interact with those “red dot” nonmembers who attend our events. Everyone is assigned periodic calls or emails to possible new members.

What makes your committee fun or stand out?
Our committee works all year long. There’s no big event that signals the end of our work for the year. But it’s rewarding to see new people joining and know it’s because of our hard work. We also like to have fun and hold our in-person meetings (when we’re able to meet in-person) at new venues across the city to give our members a taste of what meeting space is available in and around Chicago.
