January is Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a critical time to reflect on how our industry can help combat this global crisis. Human trafficking is the world’s second-largest criminal enterprise, second only to drug trafficking, and is one of the world’s most lucrative forms of organized crime. Today, an estimated 27.6 million women, children, and men are victims of human trafficking. As meeting professionals, we are uniquely positioned to identify and report signs of human trafficking due to our frequent interactions with hotels, venues, and transportation providers—key touchpoints where trafficking often occurs. Awareness is our first line of defense. Look for red flags such as individuals who appear distressed or controlled, guests with minimal luggage and personal belongings, or irregular room bookings with high foot traffic. Always trust your instincts; if something feels off, it’s worth reporting. MPI Global and the MPI Anti-Human Trafficking Committee are committed to raising awareness within the MPI Chapters and their communities by creating a digital toolbox that can be implemented within each chapter worldwide. These resource components focus on educating yourself and raising awareness in your chapter and greater community. https://www.mpi.org/tools/anti-human-trafficking

We ended the year on a high note with our Winter World's Fair, a celebration of all that we accomplished together. From impactful education sessions to meaningful networking events, none of it would have been possible without the dedication and engagement of our incredible members, volunteers, and sponsors.
Thank you for your unwavering support, collaboration, and passion that continues to drive our community forward. Here's to the memories we made in 2024 and the exciting opportunities that await us in 2025!
