A 57-year-old male presented to his primary care clinic for evaluation of a painful, red right hallux. He reported a contusion to the toe two weeks prior, due to which he experienced a partial toenail avulsion, causing a laceration of the eponychium and nail matrix area.

EVENT DETAILS:

The focus of the webinar will be on discussions surrounding various treatment methods currently used to treat plantar warts, the science behind the treatments, what is being accomplished during treatment, patient experience, rate of successful treatments, treatment limitations, etc. The objective of the webinar is to leverage the experience of several Podiatrists/Chiropodists to improve the patient experience as well as increase successful outcomes. 


Speakers:

Dr. Helen Rees

Dr. Helen Rees is a licensed New Brunswick Podiatrist. She graduated from the University of Southampton, England, in June 2011 with a BSc(hons) in Podiatry. Helen is the sole proprietor of Atlantic Podiatry in New Brunswick. She also works for Horizon Health as part of the High-Risk Diabetes Foot clinic team. Dr. Rees is a past president of the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine and has spoken at multiple conferences around the world.

Dr. Royden Stanford

Graduating from Brigham Young University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and then obtaining his doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 2008, Dr. Stanford completed residency and held many positions in Maryland and Tennessee before returning to his routes in Langley, British Columbia. Dr. Stanford has extensive training in biomechanics and orthotics, pediatric foot and ankle conditions, foot surgery, dermatology of the skin and nails, trauma, and injuries.

Jonathan Tomines

Graduating from the University of Waterloo receiving a degree in Biomedical Science and then obtaining his Graduate Advanced Diploma of Health Sciences specializing in Chiropody from the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, Jonathan Tomines continued the family tradition, working in the same practice as his father did for 30 years. Jonathan is also well known for his YouTube Channel “The Toe Bro,” where he as over a million subscribers internationally and over 384 million views to date.

Summary
Reporting to the Program Manager, Regional Diabetes Programs, the Chiropodist is a primary health care practitioner responsible for providing advanced foot care services to people living with diabetes. The team of four chiropodists provides these services at multiple sites throughout the Champlain region on a rotational basis. (The locations and amount of travel vary between the team members) The Chiropodist may also assist with community outreach and health care provider or patient education regarding diabetic foot care, in cooperation with local partners.
Requirements:
Essential
Graduation from an accredited school of chiropody.
Current registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
Experience providing foot care services to people living with diabetes.
Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in the theory behind and practical application of chiropody.
Knowledge of the impact of social/cultural/economic factors on the determinants of health.
Commitment to community-based health care.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work under stress with multiple demands.
Ability to be flexible, cooperative and work as part of a team.
Ability to work autonomously.
Ability to deal effectively with hard-to-serve clients.
