From elite athletes to weekend warriors, Achilles ruptures can affect all age groups and all types of individuals. The most common Achilles rupture patient in my practice is a 40- to 60-year-old male athlete, most commonly the aforementioned weekend warrior. Often such patients participated in athletics throughout their lives but have slowed down a bit as they aged, possibly put on a bit of weight and the joints become stiffer over the years.

There is no question that walking is generally a good form of exercise. However, it is not always appropriate during all phases of pregnancy, nor does it adequately prepare a woman for delivery or the fourth ‘Tornado’ Trimester. Long gone are the days of no lifting and putting your feet up during pregnancy. Pregnancy is the time to ‘train’ for a postnatal marathon that will last several years in a sleep-deprived state.  Prenatal fitness and stamina training are essential!

Footwear has an essential role including protection of the feet, overall performance, foot health and potentially, supporting normal development of the foot. In addition to these physical aspects which may influence choice of footwear design, there are psychological influences on what a person chooses to wear. The concept of footwear ‘comfort’ spans physical and psychological perceptions of comfort in adults. However, there is little understanding of what influences children’s footwear choices, how children perceive footwear comfort, or the language used to describe footwear experiences.

Foot problems are highly prevalent conditions, being a frequent reason for medical and podiatric consultation. The aim of this study was to compare the differences of quality of life (QoL) related to foot health in people with and without the presence of foot problems. A case–control study was carried out in an outpatient centre, where a clinician recorded data related to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics.
