CLFP has scheduled a joint Food Production Incentive Workshop with Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) on August 8 at the SoCalGas Energy Resource Center in Downey, CA. The workshop follows a similar well-attended event held June 25 in Fresno in conjunction with Pacific Gas & Electric.
 
 
   
Get your golf clubs ready and your game on for CLFP’s 23rd Annual Supplier Host Council Golf Tournament set for Monday, October 21, in Stockton.
 
The tournament, which raises funds for CLFP’s Scholarship Program, will be held in a new location this year at the Brookside Country Club.
 
 
   
The application process for the CLFP 2019-20 Member Company Scholarship program is now open. CLFP offers a scholarship program to full-time employees (year-round or seasonal) and their dependents employed by CLFP Processor and Supplier Host Council Members. The application deadline is September 13, 2019.

Combat climate change, or clean up California’s water? Those alarmed by the Legislature’s decision to dip into a greenhouse gas fund to pay for clean drinking water may need to get used to it: constitutional restrictions on spending that money are set to expire in 2021.
 
Canada is testing a measure making it easier for immigrants to stay and work in food industry jobs, and a similar measure is under consideration by the U.S. Congress.
 
New data released by The Good Food Institute (G.F.I.) and the Plant-Based Foods Association (P.B.F.A.) show plant-based foods sales significantly outpaced overall grocery sales last year. U.S. retail sales of plant-based foods grew 11% — five times more than total food sales — bringing the total plant-based market to $4.5 billion.

On June 12 Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1054, a complicated bill responding to recent utility-caused catastrophic wildfires. After several months of legislative hearings and debate, the Governor's office and a handful of legislators introduced the lengthy bill on June 27. Legislators acted quickly to comply with the Governor's self-imposed July 12th deadline in hopes that the legislation would prevent another credit downgrading for the state's two major Investor Owned Utilities that are not currently in bankruptcy.
