CLFP elected new officers at its 2017 Annual Board of Directors meeting held April 20-21 in Sonoma. Janet Edwards with the Musco Family Olive Company was elected as the 2017/2018 Chair, Tim Nelson of Seneca Foods Corporation as First Vice Chair and Nick Kastle of VSP Products as Second Vice Chair.
CLFP will hold its Ninth Annual Capitol Day on June 20 in Sacramento. CLFP holds this event each year as part of its work in building relationships with legislators. The event is an excellent forum for CLFP member company representatives to meet with legislators and regulators to discuss the issues affecting the food processing industry. It’s also an opportunity for legislators to learn about the companies and people that support CLFP.

CLFP has joined with the California Chamber of Commerce and a large coalition of business organizations in opposition to SB 562 (Lara; D-Bell Gardens/Atkins; D-San Diego), which creates a new single-payer, government-run health care system. Although the financing mechanism for SB 562 has not yet been specified, past legislative attempts at government-run health care have proposed major increases in payroll and income tax on businesses and individuals.
