The FDA is trying to educate the public about bioengineered food with a new information initiative.
“Feed Your Mind,” which launched earlier this month, seeks to furnish information and combat misconceptions about genetically modified organisms. The program comes in advance of the 2022 deadline for mandatory national label identification of bioengineered food.

“While foods from genetically engineered plants have been available to consumers since the early 1990s and are a common part of today’s food supply, there are a lot of misconceptions about them,” FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn said in a statement. “This initiative is intended to help people better understand what these products are and how they are made.”

In the first phase of the program, the FDA opened a new website and released fact sheets, infographics and videos. Additional materials, for high-school students, health professionals and consumers, will be released later this year and next.
