ETA Chapter Report

The Eta Chapter members met at the SciCan facility on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, for a recent members meeting. Special thanks to Thibaud Boiston, Pat Hennessey and Gary Reimer for hosting an excellent evening of education in the Don Mills location. The group was given a tour of SciCan’s facility that included administration, production, quality, research and repairs department. SciCan has a medical division that focusses on dental clinic and hospital washers, AERs, steam sterilizers and low temperature sterilizers and other equipment like peel pouch sealers. SciCan is known worldwide for the Statim table top steam sterilizers. Attendance was very good and many ETA chapter hospitals were represented.

A new monitoring system called ChemDAQ was introduced that involves a modular, electronic monitoring system for MDR staff exposure to chemicals used in the workplace, like Hydrogen Peroxide and ETO. Based on exposure limits and monitoring technology, this system focusses on monitoring and helping to keep staff safe.

The group was reminded about the next meeting that would be held by OTN on Thursday, May 21. This meeting will be the provincial Annual General Meeting and Constitutional changes that were put forward will be discussed and reviewed. An OTN room has been booked for this event at Sick Kids, but any hospital with OTN will be able to host and have members attend. The event number will be emailed to all members who wish to book for this. It will be important for all members to plan to attend this meeting, as important constitutional changes have been brought forward.

The CSAO annual conference that will take place in September was discussed. The theme and speakers were reviewed. As usual, the ETA chapter will support some members to attend the conference.
