2018 is an Election Year!

I would like to wish all of our members a very Happy New Year!

If you are considering a position on one of the MDRAO Chapter Executive teams, or on the Board of Directors, now is the time to be nominated or to consider nominating someone else. The nomination forms, and additional information including time lines, can be found on the MDRAO website.

This is a very exciting year, as we are working diligently towards moving our classroom courses to an on-line format, allowing us to reach out to many more students throughout the country and internationally. A lot of hard work has been completed to date, and is on schedule for a June 1st implementation. The on-line MDRAO course will replace the current classroom, and distant courses. The Refresher course will continue to be available to allow MDRT’s to remain current in their certificate of completion. Special thanks to Tammy Bernardo, Dianne King, and Colleen Landers for their commitment and enthusiasm towards this project.

We also have plans to introduce the MDRAO text book in French this year. This new version of the text book has been requested and eagerly anticipated by our friends in Eastern Canada. We look forward to reaching out and providing the learning tools for their students.

I want to take this opportunity to mention that it is with great sadness that I announce the sudden passing of Marie Savaria on December 8, 2017.

Marie’s career began in nursing at St Joseph’s Hospital in Brantford before she accepted a position as an MDR Supervisor at Brantford General Hospital. She then became the MDR Manager at Grand River hospital in Kitchener for 5 years before she retired 4 years ago.

Marie has been a dedicated MDRAO, Delta Chapter member for many years and has held many chapter executive positions during that time. She also held a position on the Provincial Board representing the Delta Chapter for one term. She was a dedicated Delta course coordinator responsible for teaching and encouraging many MDRAO students throughout the province. Marie was also the recipient of the prestigious MDRAO Isobel Campbell award in 2015 for her many years of service to our organization.

She is deeply missed by family, friends and colleagues, and will remain in our hearts forever.

Respectfully,

Denise Bosnjak
President, MDRAO
