I hope all members are enjoying the autumn season. With this time of change we look back at another MDR week celebrated across Canada. I hope all MDR departments had a chance to celebrate and recognize the important work being done to keep patients safe. I was able to attend the CAMDR conference with many other MDRAO members and promote our group’s leadership in Education and advocacy in MDR as well as see what is new in our profession.
The new Executive Committee has already started planning our September 2017 Conference whose theme is Measuring Success: Quality Assurance in MDR. We are planning another informative 3 days of education and inspiration related to MDR in healthcare facilities. We thank the vendors for their support and participation.
Membership is on the rise again this year. To date we are well over 600 members. Please encourage your coworkers to join the MDRAO and participate in Chapter Activity.
The MDR Classroom and Correspondence courses are off to another very successful year. Delta has completed a fall session and ETA is winding down their fall course. Sigma course will soon follow in November. We have had 67 students register for Correspondence courses. We are developing online learning modules to supplement both the Distance and Refresher courses. Our textbooks and workbooks are undergoing many important edits and updates based on recent course feedback and review from our educational Coordinator. The next edition in June will be better than ever.
We are also working hard to launch an online Storefront where hospitals can go to purchase MDRAO merchandise such as pens, lanyards, travel mugs and caps with our logo.
April 10 will be known as an international day of recognition for CSSD. This is coming from the World Federation for Hospital Sterilisation Sciences (yes spelled with an S not Z) who is willing to establish a special day to celebrate the CSSDs and their workers all over the world. The date of 10th of April is actually the birthday of the new World Federation. We count on you to spread this information in your hospitals to help the recognition of our work.
