Vice President’s Report

June 2015

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and some time away from the world of medical device reprocessing.

We are now known as the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario or MDRAO. The members voted for the name change and this aligns us well with the national accepted format of naming in our profession.

Our association will soon have a new, third edition of the textbook, The Manual for Reprocessing Medical Devices, available July 2015. The format of the manual will be much improved with design and layout changes and new chapters being added. There is an overwhelming interest for this new text across the country and the CSA has endorsed the manual as reference for CSA MDR certification.

We are partnering with vendors at all levels and we thank them for their educational and financial support of our association and profession specifically in Education and Conference planning.

The Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday, May 21, 2015, by OTN. The meeting presented Constitutional changes brought forward by members and voted on later by electronic ballot. Thanks to all who attended and those that voted on the changes.

Planning is winding down for our 2015 CSAO Conference. We are looking at attracting more delegates, more vendors and making the three-day experience both educational and inspirational. In moving forward, we have decided to hold biannual conferences on alternate years of the national. This year’s conference is shaping up to be one of the best yet. The theme is "Partnering for Success: Raising the Bar in MDR." Our keynote speaker is a well-known athlete in Canada and Ambassador for the 2015 Pan American Games, Michael "Pinball" Clemons. He is a very inspirational speaker who will no doubt motivate us all with talk on teamwork and partnerships. Other presenters will discuss MDR partnerships involved with CSA, surgical instrument vendors, surgeon instrument set standardization and Endoscopy to name a few of the exciting topics to be covered.

We hope you find the articles and content useful and informative in this year’s CSAO magazine. We have also started to develop the conference app that was so well-used and liked last year and it will be ready for September.
