Quebec – Quebec Hydro Electricity Supply Plan

On November 1, 2022, Hydro Quebec published its Electricity Supply Plan that forecasts the Québec market’s demand for the next 10 years and outlines how Hydro Quebec expects to meet this demand. The Plan is filed with the Régie de l’énergie and is reviewed in each of the two subsequent years.

Ontario – Bill 23 and the Conservation Authorities Act

On October 25, 2022, the Ontario Government introduced Bill 23, More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022, which amongst a number of proposed legislative amendments, advanced proposed amendments to the province’s Conservation Authorities Act.  Dam owners in Ontario within areas subject to conservation authority regulation often requires permitting and approvals from conservation authorities for dam related activities.

While the Bill 23 amendments do not include any proposed amendments specific to dams, dam owners will want to keep abreast of potential regulatory changes to conservation authority permitting and approvals.
