Jean-Pierre Tournier Honoured by EIC

Long-time CDA volunteer Jean-Pierre Tournier will be honoured by the Engineering Institute of Canada on March 12 at its Annual Awards Banquet. Receiving the Canadian Pacific Railway Engineering Medal for his many years of leadership and service within the Institute, Dr. Tournier is one of only four individuals being recognized with a senior award. The EIC’s senior awards are the highest distinction made by the Institute.

Dr. Tournier has served on the CDA Board of Directors and the Dam Safety Committee, but perhaps is best known for his active role in the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), where he is chair of the technical committee on Embankment Dams and plays a major role in the Francophone Club. He works with Hydro-Quebec out of Montreal.

His rich career involved him as a designer, project leader and project manager in virtually all of the hydroelectric developments in Quebec, including Eastmain, Opinaca, La Grande and Laforge-1 for the James Bay Project. He has participated on expert panels and as a specialist advisor for numerous other dam projects across Canada; and has authored or co-authored over fifty technical papers.

The Institute’s Annual Awards Banquet will be held on March 12, 2016 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. For information or to buy tickets, please contact the Engineering Institute of Canada at (613) 400-1786 or send an email to admin.officer@eic-ici.ca.

CDA extend its congratulations to Dr. Tournier!
