CDA working on new ways to distribute Guidelines; adjusting pricing

The Board of Directors of the Canadian Dam Association has long recognized that the current method of disseminating CDA’s guidance documents – Guidelines and Technical Bulletins – needed to change. While the current method of print-only editions has its strengths, the Board knows the industry needs digital options as well.

At its March 21-April 1 meeting, the Board approved the first set of changes to make the guidance more accessible to practitioners in Canada and around the world.

Beginning immediately, the price of guidance in print format is being reduced to $75 for members and $175 for non-members, a reduction of $75 in both categories. Shipping and handling charges remain unchanged.

An on-line, searchable edition of the Dam Safety Guidelines 2007 (Revised 2013) will be made available to CDA member at the earliest opportunity. There will be no charge for this access. This option will not be made available to non-members at this time.

Work on a portable, searchable digital edition is well underway and the product will be released
as soon as possible, once the different technological options for implementation have been more thoroughly investigated and tested.

Initially, the additional dissemination options are being restricted to the Dam Safety Guidelines; however, CDA’s other guidance documents will follow in a timely manner.

CDA’s portfolio of guidance documents available in both English and French is composed of:
* Dam Safety Guidelines 2007 (Revised 2013)
* Dam Safety Technical Bulletins 2007
* Guidelines for Public Safety Around Dams, 2011
* Technical Bulletin for the Application of Dam Safety Guidelines to Mining Dams, 2014.

The Technical Bulletin on Dam Safety Reviews, 2016, is available in English only at this time. The translation into French has been done and is in the process of receiving final editing and vetting. Translation of this document into Spanish is underway and should be available, in digital version only, by the end of May 2017.
