On March 28 and 29, CDA delivered a workshop on Emergency Management for Dam Safety to a group of 42 Peruvians from the mining sector regulator (OSINERGMIN), the environmental regulator (OEFA) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM).

The workshop outlined the process presented in CDA’s Technical Bulletin: Emergency Management for Dam Safety, including risk assessment, maintenance of readiness, response, and recovery. In addition, the workshop provided an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the dam owner and stakeholders, focusing on mining dams and the importance of community engagement and ways to promote community resilience.

Violeta Martin, Ph.D, P.Eng. (Knight Piésold), Caius Priscu, Ph.D, P.Eng. (Priscu and Associates), Andy Small, P.Eng. (Klohn Crippen Burger), Santiago Paz, P.Eng. (Alberta Energy Regulator) and Bruno Cornejo, AMBCI (Trace Associates) contributed to the workshop by sharing Canadian experience with the workshop participants.
