Update to Dig-Site Size Restrictions For Western Canada One-Call Software

A new ticket type will be introduced to the new one-call software in Western Canada on May 5, 2019. The Business Rule Alignment Group is working with PelicanCorp to develop a new Large Area Projects ticket type in order to resolve issues related to dig-site size restrictions.

The Large Area Projects ticket type will be available for large pre-planned projects that extend over a large area and require a significant amount of time to complete, allowing contractors to map much larger areas on a single ticket. The ticket will also include large-scope dig areas for pipeline and seismic work. The proposed dig site size is up to 800,000 square meters.

Interim changes:

Until the new ticket type is released, changes have been made to the current project ticket types. Both the Urban Project ticket and the Rural Project ticket types will have an increased maximum size restriction.

The maximum area for a Rural Project ticket has been increased from 108,000 square metres to 4.2 square kilometres. This update took effect on March 6.

The maximum area for an Urban Project ticket has been increased from 15,000 square metres to 60,000 square metres. This update took effect on March 15.

The updates to both the rural and urban ticket types are temporary and the maximum dig areas are expected to revert to their original sizes on May 5, upon release of the new ticket type.
