President’s Corner

Spring time. It’s the season of new beginnings. All across the U.S. our beautiful campuses are either bursting forth with new life or are about to start that transformation. Spring time also means the ending for some of our students, as they finish their college careers and go into the workforce or transfer on to a four-year institution. It may be an ending as far as our students’ community college career, but it is also a new beginning for them, especially if they are heading into the workforce for the job we trained them for.

Here at CCBO, things are no different. Dr. Michael Heindl of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and CCBO President-elect and Annual Conference chair, and his dedicated group of committee members are hard at work on the details of the conference, which is shaping up to be, as usual, a great conference for community college business officers and others within your great institution. Registration is now open for the conference, and it is never too early to register.

Registration is also open for CCBO’s Leadership Academy, headed up by Brad McCormick of John A. Logan College (Illinois). Brad has done an excellent job since stepping in last year to replace Keith Houck, who stepped down as Dean to enjoy a much-deserved retirement. If you have an up and coming staff member that you expect great things from, the Leadership Academy is the place for them. CCBO’s Leadership Academy is the only leadership program designed specifically for community colleges.

I also need to give a big shout out to Alisha Fox of Cleveland State Community College (Tennessee). Alisha is CCBO’s Vice President for Regional Services. Alisha’s main focus this year as VP for Regional Services is heading up our Membership and Marketing Committee. Alisha is a graduate of our Leadership Academy, and she has done an outstanding job since joining the board. I am very excited about her enthusiasm and efforts in rejuvenating our annual membership drive. "Together, we’re better" is my theme for this year. A stronger CCBO membership means we will all be better, because together, we can work together to make each of ourselves, our institutions, and those we serve, better.

I look forward to great things coming to CCBO with the leadership of Alisha, Michael, Brad, and all other members of our board. Each of them deserves a shout out for their dedication to CCBO and to their institutions.

I know springtime can be a busy time of year for each of us. But always remember – occasionally step aside from the fast lane and enjoy the moment, so it is not forgotten.
