Is professional development important? The majority of people who are asked this question will answer yes, that the proper professional development is important. Over 10,000 diverse associations provide professional development to their members and, according to the department of education, 54% of adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher participate in formal learning activities every year. There is no doubt that professional development is of widely recognized importance amidst a wide breadth of industries. CCBO is no different. Our members know and value the importance of professional development and we rely on their commitment to help move the community college industry forward.

However, does macro professional development buy-in translate to a micro and individual level? Are we, as supervisors, doing all we can to give our employees opportunity for growth and career advancement? As members of CCBO, you are in a unique position to not just allow your staff to attend events, but to help create the content so that your staff members can learn and grow. It takes a long time to develop quality educational opportunities. The content must be created, someone must be confirmed to present the information, and the opportunity must be marketed to the right audience at the right time.

Yes, it is hard work, but the payoff is unquantifiable. You face unique challenges everyday, but the knowledge you gain from those experiences can benefit any number of fellow community college business officers. We are proud that every year over 30 volunteers put together and present educational material through our webinars, Leadership Academy, and Annual Conference educational sessions. We know that all of our members possess enough knowledge to present their own educational session. We handle the logistics; you handle the content. Are you a community college business officer? Then I encourage you to contribute to your profession, improve your resume, and further your Association. Contact info@ccbo.org today and talk to us about how you can contribute to making quality education available to more people!
