Leadership Academy Dean

The 2014 CCBO Leadership Academy, scheduled for September 20 and 21, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas at the Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk, provides an opportunity for current and aspiring community college business officers to educate themselves on the various intricacies of the chief business officer leadership role. The Academy’s goal is to provide participants with the knowledge of best practices of leadership within a community college.

The Academy curriculum will be a wide range of current and relevant educational sessions. The speakers will be experienced business officers, presidents and other senior knowledgeable higher education leaders. The sessions are interactive and will help Academy participants to develop the necessary leadership skills needed to succeed as a chief business officer.

Day one sessions will include the fundamentals of the chief business officer role, how to develop an effective management team, risk management, personal career development planning, and working with boards of trustees.

The Academy will conclude on day two with conversations with a community college president, other institutional strategic leaders and experienced business officers and leaders of CCBO. During these sessions, Academy participants will have opportunities to "pick the brains" of these experienced leaders using a press conference format.

Last year’s CCBO Leadership Academy participants say:

"Absolutely an exceptional course! The Leadership Academy offers a dynamic, intellectual, and stimulating exchange of information between current community college business officers and students. I left the course inspired, and I know my attendance of the Leadership Academy will provide lifelong dividends.  In my opinion, the experience is comparable to having had an investment luncheon with Warren Buffet. I strongly recommend attendance of the Leadership Academy for junior and senior leaders who desire a better understanding of the intricate issues associated with community college management.  In addition, the opportunity to have a "Sensational Personal Mentor" who is currently serving as a CBO is...priceless!"

2013 Recipient of the Darrell E. Roberts Emerging Professional Award

"Participation in the CCBO Leadership Academy provided me with new founded business relationships with colleagues from across the country. Equally as important is the knowledge gained from presentations in both years, providing me with insights from many departments within the community college environment."
Dr. Judy L. Mitchell
Vice President Administrative Services, Joliet Junior College

"CCBO Leadership Academy is about empowering people through relationships, peer learning, memorable discussions, and the important decisions we face within our own communities. My experience has been one with individuals excited to share their success, introduce us to their colleagues, and help each of us on our own path. I appreciate all those I’ve met along the way and look forward to another great year with CCBO. It has been a unique opportunity to see how people are working to change lives and to really understand the entrepreneurial spirit."
