Don’t miss your chance to establish a successful board relationship and make your organization stronger! The 2020 Symposium for Chief Staff and Chief Elected Officers comes to Toronto on February 24-25, 2020 and Calgary on February 27-28, 2020. Attend this symposium to successfully work with your current and future board chairs to:

  • define annual priorities
  • learn how to work better together
  • apply the value of informed policy and strategy as primary tools of leadership

Check out what past participant Lea Bryden, CEO, Medical Society of PEI, had to say about this two day session:

"The symposium has changed the way I think about association governance, and how a healthy relationship between the senior elected officer and its CEO can drive organizational performance."

Membership Spotlight

Member since 2002

I am the Registrar of the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), serving in a leadership, liaison and advisory role to manage the certification, registration and professional practice of applied science, information and engineering technicians and technologists in the province.

CSAE was a natural choice for me given my passion for association work. The CAE® program was exceptional and helped to crystalize my knowledge of association management. I have volunteered as a director of the CSAE Alberta Network, a member of the Communications Awards and Maintenance of Certification Program task forces, and a subject matter expert for a Course Development Advisory Committee. Above all, I value holding a designation that is highly respected in North America and recognized by employers across sectors and industries. I also appreciate CSAE publications and networking and professional development opportunities. CSAE is the best home for association professionals in Canada!

by Jean S. Frankel; Gabriel Eckert, CAE

Excerpt: "There has never been a more complex time to be a leader. More information, more decisions, and more activity are universally expected outcomes. Experts say that the growth of data has now reached an unsustainable level. In the coming years, associations leaders increasingly will find themselves deep inside a sort of “information vortex”, with infinite ideas for programs, services, and strategies swirling all around them and with little control over the origin or destination of these ideas.”

Excerpt: ”Whether you are now chair of your not-for-profit board, in line for the job, or are considering letting your name stand for the job at some point in the future, this publication was developed to help you make the most of your tenure at the helm when that time comes. Many publications have been written to help board members understand and discharge their responsibilities, but far fewer have been written specifically for the chair. This publication seeks to fill that void.”
