Membership Spotlight

Member since 2017

I am a partner at Four Corners Group, where I oversee my firm’s not-for-profit and association executive search practice. I joined CSAE in 2017 after several of my association clients mentioned their positive experiences with the organization. As a member, I have participated as a speaker at the 2018 CSAE Trillium Winter Summit and I wrote a feature article on the topic of leadership transitions for the summer 2018 issue of Association™ magazine. Beyond CSAE’s fantastic network, I have found real value in the quality materials and tools that CSAE publishes, curates and hosts. The online forum, Associations Connect, is something that I access regularly, and I am continually impressed by the depth of collective expertise within CSAE’s membership, shared within the discussion threads.

I am the chief administrative officer of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors. Involved in the local community, I am elected to municipal government, serve as a commissioner to the Peninsula Recreation Commission, and am a director in CREST, the Capital Region emergency communications network for police, fire, and ambulance. Following a term as a director on the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association, I now volunteer with BC Hockey on the appeal committee. Membership in CSAE provides educational opportunities and a collegial environment in which to learn from other professionals, which I have found to be very valuable.

Finding it hard to get the right technical employees—whether developers or IT administrators? It might be time to play up your organization’s hidden advantages—including, potentially, your location. There’s a lot of competition for technical employees these days. After all, with potential for-profit neighbors sucking up all the job-market bandwidth, it might feel like you’re up against it when trying to convince IT pros to work for your association.

Introducing CSAE’s new publication!

Stuff Happens... But you can sleep at night by making your association Reputation Resilient

Reputations take years to establish and can be damaged in mere moments. Organizations can mitigate and repair damage by preparing. Tailored for associations and not-for-profit organizations of all sizes and types, this book guides the reader through all stages of crisis preparation with a straightforward approach.

Excerpt: “There is an old saying, “Not planning is planning to fail.” That applies as much to preparing to manage an issue as it does to achieving more positive goals. Associations that ignore the possibility of something going wrong are deluding themselves. A little bit of preparation and forethought can be that extra ounce of protection to mitigate damage and speed recovery after a disaster.

The reality is that for many executives, crisis preparation only makes the top of the priority list after they have lived through a disaster that caused them and/or their association harm.

What if the tables were turned?”
