Post-secondary institutions throughout the country have been adjusting to increased focus by the United States Department of Education ("ED") on reducing sexual misconduct on college campuses. ED has increased investigation of school compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 ("Title IX") through its Office for Civil Rights ("OCR") which enforces Title IX (130 plus institutions under investigation currently). The final federal regulations implementing VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) went into effect July 1, 2015 and apply to all post-secondary institutions that participate in the Federal Title IV student financial aid program, even wholly online institutions and institutions without residential housing. Training requirement is at least annually. Train your staff using the AACS Online Training Center course, Title IX and VAWA Training: Building Safer Campuses authored by Katherine Brodie of Duane Morris, LLP.
