Alabama’s legislature nears the end of their 2016 legislative session, we are pleased to report that HB 344, which would completely deregulate barbering the state, is officially dead. Learn about more activity around the United States in this week's state relations report. 

 
 
   
Republican Appropriations Committee leadership have once again expressed a willingness to include legislative language seeking to delay implementation of the gainful employment regulations as part of the annual fiscal year 2017 appropriations process, but they need our support to help elevate the issue in order for us to achieve success! Take action now to help build the support needed to delay gainful employment by going to the AACS Action Center, clicking on the GE Appropriations Campaign that has the same name as this article, and taking the simple steps to notify your elected officials from either the Internet or your smartphone enabled devices!
 
With little to no fanfare, Under Secretary Ted Mitchell released a Dear Colleague letter on behalf of Secretary of Education John King, recognizing institutions for their role in the delivery of post-secondary education, delivery of federal student financial aid resources, information and services, and the commitment of the financial aid staff to comply with the statute and regulations. As part of the March 25, 2016 DCL, the Under Secretary goes on to highlight six key "statutory and regulatory requirements that have increased the administrative responsibilities of institutions" and two "significant financial aid processing changes" introduced by the Obama Administration this past fall.
